About This Project

Dive Vibe is a personal, open-source hobby project maintained by an individual. It is not operated by a company, organization, or commercial entity. This project provides a viewer for community-contributed dive site data hosted in a public GitHub repository (the Dive Vibe Community repository).

This Privacy Policy describes how data is handled when you use this site. By using Dive Vibe, you acknowledge and accept the practices described here.

Disclaimer

This website and service are provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The maintainer makes no representations or warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of the information presented, including dive site data contributed by the community.

Use of this service is at your own risk. The maintainer shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use of this site. This is a free, community hobby project and is not a commercial service.

What Data This Site Handles

GitHub Authentication

When you sign in with GitHub to contribute dive site data, GitHub shares your username and avatar URL with this site via OAuth. This information is stored temporarily in a secure, HTTP-only browser cookie that expires after 1 hour. Your GitHub access token is also held in this cookie for the session duration so the site can submit contributions on your behalf.

This project does not operate a user database. No accounts, profiles, passwords, or email addresses are stored on any server. When your session cookie expires or you log out, the data is gone.

Community Contributions

When you contribute dive site information, your submission is sent as a pull request to the Dive Vibe Community (DVC) repository on GitHub. Your GitHub username is publicly attributed in the pull request and commit history. This data is version-controlled, publicly accessible, and governed by GitHub's terms.

Destination Requests and Issue Reports

When you request a new destination or report an issue, this information is submitted as a GitHub Issue on the community repository. The details you provide and your GitHub username are publicly visible on GitHub.

Third-Party Services

This site relies on several third-party services. The maintainer does not control what data these services collect. Each has its own privacy policy:

  • GitHub: Handles authentication (OAuth) and hosts all dive site data in a public repository. See the GitHub Privacy Statement.
  • Google Cloud Run: This site is hosted on Google Cloud Run. Google may collect request metadata such as IP addresses, timestamps, and user-agent strings as part of standard infrastructure logging. The maintainer does not actively collect, process, or analyze this data. See the Google Cloud Privacy Notice.
  • Google Analytics: This site may use Google Analytics to collect anonymized, aggregate usage statistics such as page views and interaction events. No personally identifiable information is intentionally collected through analytics. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Maps: This site uses the Google Maps API to display dive site locations on a map. Google may collect data through this integration. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Cookies

This site uses the following cookies:

  • github_session: A secure, HTTP-only cookie containing your GitHub username, avatar URL, and access token. Used solely for authentication. Expires after 1 hour.
  • Google Analytics cookies: If analytics are enabled, Google may set cookies to collect anonymized usage data.

You can clear cookies at any time through your browser settings. You can opt out of Google Analytics using browser privacy settings or extensions such as the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Your Choices

Since this project does not maintain a user database or store persistent personal data, there is generally no personal data to access, correct, or delete on this site's servers.

  • Your session data exists only in a temporary browser cookie that you can clear at any time, or it will expire automatically after 1 hour.
  • Contributions you have made to the community GitHub repository are governed by GitHub's terms and can be managed through GitHub directly (e.g., by closing your pull requests or contacting the maintainer to request removal).
  • You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using browser privacy settings or extensions.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the maintainer of this project shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of this site. This site is a free, community hobby project and is not a commercial service. Dive site information is community-contributed and should not be relied upon as the sole source for dive planning or safety decisions.

Children's Privacy

This site is not intended for children under 13. No age verification is performed.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
